University Libraries’ Stress-Free Zone Returns for Spring Finals Week

Relax! To ease the stress of finals week, 91ÊÓƵ Libraries will host the popular Stress-Free Zone this semester on Monday, May 4, and Tuesday, May 5, from 3-5 p.m. The therapy dogs will return once again, and there will be free popcorn and beverages to enjoy. The event is open to all 91ÊÓƵ students, faculty and staff.

91ÊÓƵ Holds Spring Commencement Ceremonies on May 8, 9 and 15

91ÊÓƵ congratulates its new graduates. The university held its Spring Commencement ceremonies for the Kent Campus on May 8 and May 9 at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center). This spring, 91ÊÓƵ conferred 3,883 degrees, including 2,864 bachelor’s degrees, 874 master’s degrees, 142 doctoral degrees and three educational specialist degrees at the Kent Campus. Across the university’s eight-campus system, 4,512 students graduated from 91ÊÓƵ this spring, including those receiving associate degrees.

The First Group of Students With Intellectual Disabilities Gets Ready to Graduate From 91ÊÓƵ’s Career and Community Studies Program

Maddie Morsefield is like any other high-achieving college senior at 91ÊÓƵ. She is a straight-A student. Her résumé is filled with work experience and awards, and she is going through mock interviews to help her land that first job. But what makes Morsefield extra special is that she is part of the first group of students with intellectual disabilities getting ready to graduate after completing a four-year program at 91ÊÓƵ. 

91ÊÓƵ’s MBA Team Wins Regional Competition

91ÊÓƵ’s MBA team took home the grand prize in the Cleveland Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) Competition that took place at the Union Club in Cleveland. The regional competition’s case focused on mergers and acquisitions. Members of the winning team include Josh Hostetler, Brad Neumann, Frank Russ and Kaushik Saha, all second-year MBA students who will graduate this May. They won an all-expenses-paid trip to Orlando, Fla., for the ACG Global Conference in April.

91ÊÓƵ to Help Akron Students Earn College Credit Without Leaving High School

  Reading, writing and arithmetic are getting a college-styled makeover in two Akron, Ohio, high schools. Through a $480,000 grant from the , the partnership called College Today will send instructors into Ellet High School and Firestone High School to teach college-level English and math.

91ÊÓƵ held its 45th annual commemoration of May 4, 1970, with events April 30-May 4. The annual commemoration, hosted by the May 4 Task Force, provided an opportunity for the university community to gather and remember those who were lost and injured during the tragedy and also reflect on what May 4 means today.

In observance of Veterans Day, 91ÊÓƵ will be closed Nov. 11 and will reopen Nov. 12.

  • The University Library will be open until 10 p.m. with .
  • The Student Recreation and Wellness Center will have adjusted hours â€“ 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Ohio is conducting a statewide tornado drill at 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18. 91ÊÓƵ will be participating in this test.

91ÊÓƵ Remembers May 4, 1970, With 56th Commemoration

This year’s May 4 Commemoration, to be held May 1-4, 2026, will include special remembrances of John Cleary, one of the nine wounded students, and Jerry M. Lewis, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Sociology, who served as a faculty marshal during the campus shootings and worked tirelessly to ensure that the legacy of May 4 would endure.
